BATAVIA, IL — A Batavia woman has been sentenced to six years in prison at the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for stealing money to support her heroin addiction from her former employer, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's office. Aleksandra A. Kunicka, 27, of the 200 block of Union Street, agreed to the sentence and to pay full restitution to the business in exchange for pleading guilty to two counts of felony burglary, according to a news release from the state's attorney's office.

According to the release, Kane County prosecutors said during the plea hearing that during five late-night occasions during May and June 2018, Kunicka entered a business in the 100 block of North Batavia Avenue, where she was previously employed. The business was closed, but a gas station it's connected to was open at the time, the release said. In total, Kunicka took $2,634 cash from the cash register, safe or cash box, according to the state's attorney's office.

The state's attorney's office said Kane County Associate Judge Kathryn D. Karayannis accepted the plea in this case, which was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Chris McCall.
