BATAVIA, IL — After more than three decades of success as Batavia's girls volleyball coach, Lori Trippi-Payne was recently honored as one of the best coaches in the state.

Volleyball website illprepvb.com named Trippi-Payne to its inaugural Illinois Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame after she earned almost 600 wins over her 33-year coaching career and a reputation for molding players into good students and citizens, according to a report by the Elgin Courier-News.

The team won the American Volleyball Coaches Assocation’s annual All-American Award — based on GPA and community service — more than two dozen times during Trippi-Payne’s reign, the Aurora Beacon-News reports.

She was an accomplished bowler during her time at the University of Illinois, winning four Big 10 titles, the report states. She earned her master's degree at Northern Illinois University. Trippi-Payne retired this summer from her role as a physical education teacher at Bataiva High School after 34 years.

St. Charles East's Jennie Kull was also named to illprepvb.com’s Coaches Hall of Fame, the report states.

Kull racked up two state championships, 18 regional titles and 9 sectional titles in her 23 years as coach. She told the Courier-News she was especially appreciative of receiving the honor after she and her family were injured in a car accident in May while traveling home from Auburn University.
