Chicago Man Gets 10 Years For Batavia Resident’s Overdose Death
The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to a felony charge of drug-induced homicide in connection with a Batavia man's death in May 2018.

BATAVIA, IL — A Chicago man was sentenced Wednesday to serve 10 years in prison after he admitted to selling fentanyl-laced heroin that killed a Batavia man, according to Kane County prosecutors.
Alejandro Junco, 30, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of drug-induced homicide in connection with 20-year-old Daniel Mate’s overdose death in May 2018, prosecutors said.

An autopsy showed Mate died of heroin/fentanyl intoxication, and cell phone records showed Junco agreed to sell heroin to Mate, prosecutors said in a news release.
Junco must serve at least 75 percent of his 10-year sentence. He will receive credit for serving more than 600 days in the Kane County jail between his arrest and his sentencing, the release states.

Heroin “continues to ravage communities across the county, including here in Kane County,” Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Bill Engerman said in the release, adding “anyone who sells deadly drugs should be prepared to face serious consequences.”
