Driveway Contest Raises Money for COVID-19 Fund
Batavia family hosts driveway design contest over spring break to benefit Batavia United Way

One Batavia family has thought of a clever and fun way to support the Batavia United Way (BUW) and promote creativity over Spring Break. The Wagenknecht family hosted a Driveway Design Contest over spring break, with an entry fee of $10 per driveway with the proceeds benefiting the Batavia United Way’s COVID-19 Fund. Judges were various community members including Margaret Perreault (president and CEO, Batavia Chamber of Commerce), Officer Emil Jensen (Batavia Police Department), Dr. Lisa Hichens (Superintendent, Batavia Public Schools), Lt. Chris Neal (Batavia Fire Department), Len Bielefeldt (resident artist/art instructor/owner, Art Box), and the Wagenknecht children, Maddyn, Halas, and Briggs. Winners were announced in two categories: 4th Grade and Younger, the Coleman Family, and 5th Grade and Older, the Herman family. The winning families received 25% of the money collected and the remaining 75% (plus a generous donation) was awarded to the Batavia United Way COVID-19 Fund, over $1300!
