Elginite Charged in Incident After Knife Reportedly Displayed

An Elgin man has been charged with aggravated assault after he reportedly ran at another man while wielding a knife during an incident in mid-December.

Porfirio Hernandez-Zunigo, 34, of the 400 block of Fulton Street, Elgin, surrendered to police at 1:22 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at the St. Charles Police Department, 211 N. Riverside Drive. Police said he was charged with aggravated assault and arrested on an Elgin traffic warrant.

According to police, the aggravated assault charge stems from a Dec. 16, 2013 incident in which reportedly wielded a small kitchen while running at another man.  The incident occurred outside Wise Plastics, 3810 Stern Ave., where a camera recorded video of the incident.

The police report states that the video is not visible in the video, which reportedly shows Hernandez-Zunigo get out of his car, take off his jacket, and call to the victim. When the victim begins to approach, police said Hernandez-Zunigo is seen running toward the victim, who flees. Hernandez-Zunigo then returns to his car and leaves.

After his Jan. 1 arrest, Hernandez-Zunigo posted $150 cash bond and a $50 booking fee and was released pending a Jan. 27, 2014 court appearance.
