Free Gun Locks For Batavia Firearm Owners: Police

Batavia gun owners can pick up a free gun lock while supplies last, without questions.

BATAVIA, IL — A free gun lock program put on the the Batavia Police Department has lukewarm response from the public, according to Deputy Chief Shawn Mazza. Police are encouraging residents to safely store their firearms by handing out free gun locks while supplies last at the station, 100 N. Island Avenue.

Mazza says the department acquired the locks around three years ago through a donation from Project Childsafe, and about 150 remain. He stresses, when residents pick up the device, there’s no personal information taken. Whoever comes in talks with a records technician who has access to the freebies. Every year, the department reminds the public that they’re still available for pickup throughout the year. He hopes to see more interest in 2018.

Please contact Deputy Chief Shawn Mazza at (630) 454-2500 if you need any additional information.
