Gold Coin Found In Salvation Army Bucket In Batavia
The coin was reportedly the first of its kind donated in Batavia.

BATAVIA, IL --- An anonymous good Samaritan dropped a gold coin in a Salvation Army bucket in Batavia to spread a little extra cheer for the holidays. The one-ounce gold coin, which was wrapped in a dollar bill, has been part of an annual tradition throughout surrounding communities, but this year marks the first gold coin dropped in Batavia, Chicago Tribune reports.
The coin, worth around $1200, was reportedly dropped off with the Salvation Army bell ringer outside of the Batavia Walmart at 801 N. Randall Rd. The bell ringer was reportedly counting donations when they noticed something heavy wrapped inside the dollar bill and found the coin.
A few days earlier, another anonymous Good Samaritan donated a one-ounce South African Kruggerand coin in the Salvation Army bucket outside of Casey's in Naperville. That coin was also valued at roughly $1200.
