Local High School Students Scholarship Recipients

Resident's at Covenant Living at the Holmstad Provide Assistance for Higher Education

Batavia, Ill.: Nine area high school students are benefitting from the generosity of residents from Covenant Living at the Holmstad by receiving a total of $9,000 in scholarships to continue their educations at institutions of higher learning. The students were awarded the scholarships from the Residents’ Association Scholarship Committee.

“These young men and women are academically engaged while actively participating in sports, music and the arts. They also volunteer in significant ways in their communities,” said Carol Hecht, Residents’ Association Scholarship Committee chair. “In anticipation of the next stage of educational opportunities, each is highly motivated to make a positive impact on the world in which they live.”

Batavia High School Graduates

Vidhya Bharani has applied to the University of Illinois- Springfield, Bradley University and DePaul and aspires to become a surgeon.

Aubrianna Harbison plans to attend Waubansee Community College with studies in elementary education.

Delaney Hindel will be attending Bradley University with a goal of becoming a political analyst.

Rebecca Marston will be attending the University of Minnesota-Duluth and plans to study environment science.

Haley Skupa has applied to Florida Southern, Jacksonville University, Illinois Wesleyan and Saint Louis University to study for a career in nursing.

St. Charles East High School Graduates

Olivia Pastrana will be attending Elgin Community College for an education in law enforcement.

Kathryn Strong will be attending Elgin Community College to study nursing.

Aurora Christian High School Graduate

Luke Schulenburg plans to attend either Waubansee or Elgin Community College focusing on becoming a firefighter.

Rosary High School Graduate

Anna Morvice will be attending Carroll University in Wisconsin and plans to study occupational therapy.

The funds for scholarships come from proceeds of the annual resident-sponsored Holmstad Holiday Bazaar and the council’s scholarship memorial. Since 1991, Covenant Living at the Holmstad Resident Council has awarded $158,000 to qualified students. To qualify, a graduating student must have been employed by October 31 of the previous year and submit a transcript of grades, an autobiography, as well as recommendations from two teachers, an academic counselor, and work supervisor.
