Luring Incident Near Middle School Unfounded: Police

The Batavia Police Department received a report regarding a man asking a student to get into his vehicle Thursday afternoon, police said.

BATAVIA, IL — Authorities have "definitively determined" an attempted luring incident reported Thursday near Rotolo Middle School did not occur, police said. The Batavia Police Department launched an investigation into a suspicious incident, which they were told occurred around 3:50 p.m. in the area of Fox Trail Drive and Hart Road.

A middle school student told authorities a stranger asked the student to get into the car. The student said the man did not get out of his car or try to touch the student.

Later in the day, police announced that a man did not try to lure the student into a vehicle.

"The Batavia Police Department takes all reports seriously and encourages the public to continue to report suspicious incidents," according to a statement posted on the police department's Facebook page.
