Middle School Cross-Country Team Sidelined By Coronavirus

BATAVIA, IL — The cross-country team at Rotolo Middle School in Batavia will not be holding any activities for the next two weeks after someone connected to the team tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a report by the Daily Herald.

Officials from Batavia Public School District 101 sent a letter Tuesday notifying parents of the positive test but did not specify whether it was from a coach or a student on the team, the Herald reports.

The Kane County Health Department contacted district employees who were in close contact with the person who tested positive, and all have been told to quarantine for 14 days, the report states.

The positive coronavirus test also forced the Rotolo Middle School cross-country team to cancel its end-of-season award ceremony, which was scheduled for Tuesday night.

Rotolo Middle School students have been learning remotely since the spring, but they are expected to return to classrooms starting Nov. 16.
