Police Urge Residents To Lock Up After String Of Car Burglaries

BATAVIA, IL — The Batavia Police Department is again reminding residents to lock up and take any valuables out of their cars overnight after a recent string of burglaries.

Eight Batavia residents reported their cars were broken into Aug. 11, and one reported their car was stolen, police said. Burglaries were reported throughout that morning, but police said it is likely the spree was committed between 1 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.

The Batavia Police Department said in a Facebook post that burglars appeared to have targeted the Tanglewood Hills subdivision and homes in the area of Millview Drive south of Main Street.

Six cars were burglarized in the 2200 and 2300 blocks of Big Woods Drive, while cars were also rummaged through in the 600 block of Limestone Drive, the 700 block of Twin Elms Lane, and the 900 blocks of Lusted Lane and Millview Drive, according to police reports.

One vehicle was stolen from a home in the 2200 block of Big Woods Drive, the reports state.

Batavia police “strongly encouraged” residents to lock their vehicles at all times, and to remove all valuables, including car keys, house keys and garage door openers. Burglars sometimes use garage door openers from cars to later enter homes, police said.

The Batavia Police Department is asking anyone with surveillance footage of the burglaries to call 630-454-2500.
