Thousands Of Ghosts, Ghouls Expected At BatFest In Batavia

The festivities include a pumpkin seed spitting contest, dancing to "Monster Mash," and trick-or-treating downtown.

BATAVIA, IL — The streets of downtown Batavia will be full of ghosts, goblins, ghouls, and other spooky sights for the city's 2018 BatFest on Oct. 27. Roughly 3,000 people are expected to attend the event, which includes trick-or-treating, a pet costume contest, and the last farmer's market of the season.

The festivities kick off at 10 a.m., when local businesses start passing out candy to trick-or-treaters. At 11:30 a.m., kids can hear Halloween stories and songs at Batavia Public Library. Be sure not to miss the BatFest costume contest, which takes place at 12:15 p.m.

There will be no shortage of pumpkins at this Halloween extravaganza. Whether you're taking part in the pumpkin seed spitting contest, competitively rolling a pumpkin, or facing off in the pumpkin carving battle, BatFest will get you into the spirit of autumn and Halloween.

Festival goers can also dance to popular Halloween hits. Take part in a dance to "Monster Mash" at 10:30 a.m. and show off your best "Thriller" dance moves at 12:45 pm..

Pets can also get in on the fun and vie for first place in the pet costume contest at 1 p.m.
