BATAVIA, IL --- Spotlights cast an eerie glow on undead creatures as they shove their way out of the soil in front of the Powell family's home in Batavia, but that's not a cause for alarm. The family's elaborate Halloween display recently earned recognition as the winner of Batavia's first Halloween House Decoration Contest.
The contest, which is held by the Batavia Park District, had more than two dozen entries of homes that were adorned with creeping spider webs, shrieking ghosts, and flitting bats.
