Windmill City Festival, River Rhapsody Series Called Off
Batavia Park District officials canceled the signature events to ensure the safety and health of employees and patrons.
BATAVIA, IL — Two of Batavia’s most-anticipated summer events will not be happening this summer due to the coronavirus, Batavia Park District officials announced last week. The Windmill City Festival and the River Rhapsody Concert Series are both canceled to ensure the safety and health of employees and patrons, officials said.
The Windmill City Festival was scheduled for July 10-12, while the River Rhapsody series was set to feature performance every Wednesday night from June 17 through Aug. 5.

Park district staff members are working on ways to offer “safe, positive experiences” to residents, whether virtual or in-person “to support Batavians’ mental and physical health,” officials said in a news release.

The park district’s Summer Outdoor Movies series is set to transform into a drive-in theater to allow guests to remain in their cars and maintain social distancing; the Batavia Virtual Recreation Center is offering free virtual programming; many youth programs and All Star Sports classes have moved to interactive, online formats; and the Batavia Senior Citizens Club meetings will be held virtually.
Hall Quarry Beach will not open this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
