111th Street Reopens At Sacramento After Rail Crossing Repairs

The CSX railroad project to repair the rail crossing at 111th and Sacramento is complete.

CHICAGO, IL - Traffic is clear on 111th Street in Mount Greenwood after a CSX rail project to improve the crossing at the tracks on Sacramento Avenue has been completed. Neighborhood residents reported all roadblocks having been removed from the thoroughfare in the area.

111th was closed for multiple weeks for the CSX crossing repair project, which made stops at rail crossings in the area at 95th Street and 103rd Street earlier this summer. Originally set to begin the final week of June, CSX postponed the work on 111th Street to the end of July and early August.

The anticipated completion date of August 2 was extended five days, with residents first reporting the road re-opening on Wednesday.

Non-railroad related construction continues on 111th Street closer to Western Avenue, but one lane remained open there as recently as last week for westbound traffic.

CSX has not provided a public update on these projects other than to post signs indicating the dates of planned closures at the crossings prior to the work.
