CHICAGO — Two cars were hijacked in separate incidents early Sunday morning in Mt. Greenwood and Beverly, according to a community alert. Chicago police believe the two carjackings may be related.

Around 3:40 a.m. in the parking lot of Subway, 3154 W. 103rd St., two women were sitting in their blue 2017 Kia Forte, Illinois license plate BC77842, when three men approached the car pointing a handgun and shotgun at the women, demanding their vehicle, according to police. Two concerned citizens inside the restaurant saw what was happening, and were robbed at gunpoint when they came out to intervene, police said.

About an hour later, at 4:55 a.m., a blue car, possibly the Kia taken earlier from the Subway lot, may have been used in a second carjacking, police said. A ride-share driver in the 10200 block of S. Oakley Ave. was waiting for customers, when police said his black 2019 Ford Expedition, Illinois license plate IROKEM2, was stolen at gunpoint.
