5 Guns Found In 4 Traffic Stops By 22nd District Police

CHICAGO — 22nd District CPD officers recovered guns during four separate traffic stops last week. Two of the people taken in custody are convicted felons, and two others were found sleeping in a running vehicle.

In the early morning hours of April 11, the 22nd District responded to a call of a man slumped over the wheel at 118th Street and Marshfield Avenue. When officers arrived at the intersection, both occupants were found asleep inside the running vehicle, with a pistol in plain view beside the passenger, police said. A second pistol was recovered from the driver.

Both men face felony gun charges. The first man was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and the second man was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

On April 13, officers stopped a vehicle at 87th Street and Damen Avenue for traffic violations. A firearm was spotted in plain sight on the vehicle’s floor board. Police took a 22-year-old man into the custody.

A few days later on April 15, 22nd District officers answered a call for a man with a gun at 88th Street and Honore Avenue. Officers located the man and vehicle matching the caller’s description. A 38-year-old man was arrested. Police said the man was a convicted felon.

The next day, on April 16, officers stopped a vehicle with illegal tint near 112th Street and Vincennes Avenue. As officers approached the vehicle, police said the driver was observed placing his hands near the door pocket. A gun was recovered from the pocket and a 25-year-old man was taken into custody.
