Beverly Records Gives the People What They Want On Facebook
Virtual sale give shut-ins chance to 'Claim' vinyl live during fun evening of music, albums, pop art.
CHICAGO, IL — Beverly Records of Chicago has always had "the knack" for staying on the cutting edge in a business linked to yesterday.
“Facebook Live Shopping Event” Thursday, April 23, at 7 p.m. is the most recent example of an old hound dog coming up with cheap tricks to give the people what they want.
With Record Store Day 2020 shelved during the pandemic, Beverly Records men at work ironed out the kinks to connect directly through technology to help shut-ins get the latest in vinyl releases and re-releases they otherwise would have gotten Saturday after standing line in the morning dew.

“We have been busy picking out some really cool records and now they are ready for display on Facebook,” said Beverly Records owner Jack Dreznes, whose links through the industry have helped him secure the most coveted of records.

Like something out of a Thomas Dolby science video, Beverly Records will go live at 7 p.m. on Facebook. Once the Facebook user signs into Beverly Records’ live video feed, the viewer can expect the following from the comfort of their own home:
· Two records will go up for sale at the same time
· The viewer comments “claimed” to secure the record displayed
· After the Facebook event, Beverly Records contacts the buyer to seal the sale
“We will also be holding a no-reserve auction on some super cool vinyl throughout the event,” said Dreznes. “We ask all our friends who have been with us through the years to spread the word through social media.
“Just liking and sharing with others will make a huge difference and allow us to host more of these events with additional rare records we can acquire with the resource.”
Over the years Beverly Records has hosted live concerts on Record Store Day, Vinyl Fairs “for serious crate diggers” and a record release party by local artist Railway Gamblers in April of 2017.
At the time, local artist Matt Fricks of Railway Gamblers said:
“Our pocket of the City is so blessed to have a hip and supportive record store like Beverly Records. Having a real vinyl 45 to autograph as part of a record release party is the stuff of dreams.”
The pandemic would take on nightmarish proportions if not for ingenuity, hustle and access to rare, pristine records secured by Beverly Records leading up to each international Record Store Day event, when aisles are jammed and astute shoppers get a great return on their vinyl treasure hunt.
“For what it takes to feed a juke box for three hours, the savvy buyer can go home with hundreds of hours of analog listening – the best art form in my opinion.”
Record fanatics and loyal followers of Beverly Records normally queue up at dawn for the very latest releases.
Dreznes expects an especially strong response to recently-departed artists Bill Withers and John Prine.
“Chances are that if you had the album at some point and want it again, we have it,” said Dreznes. “If you’ve never had that album you want, chances are we have, and if not, we can order it.”
Record Store Day
Internationally, Record Store Day is the single day of the year when independent record shops come together to celebrate their unique culture. Special vinyl releases are made exclusively for the day and many shops and cities host artist performances and events to mark the occasion. Shops celebrate the day around the globe in what’s become one of the biggest annual events on the music calendar.
The first US Record Store Day was officially kicked off by Metallica in San Francisco in 2008 and took hold as every third Saturday in April until this year's pandemic.
Record Store Day distribution nationally has been rescheduled for June 20, 2020.
