CHICAGO — An art exhibit commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Black Sox scandal, in which eight members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox were accused of intentionally losing the World Series in exchange for money, will open Sunday at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. “The Black Sox – A Century Later” will run from June 9 until July 21 in the arts center's Simmerling Gallery. Artist Thom Ross created the gallery and has an opening reception planned for Thursday, June 13 from 6-9 p.m.

Ross' gallery will include a life-sized “Field of Dreams” in which show attendees can pose for photos wearing replicas of 1919 Black Sox jerseys and ball caps alongside Shoeless Joe, Eddie Buck Weaver and Eddie Cicotte, according to a news release from the BAC. The exhibit will be enhanced with augmented reality, using the phone app RealityX2 to provide further background on the art with just a picture.

Ross said the exhibit will make its debut in Beverly, but hopes that it will be popular enough to eventually travel to other cities.
