Providence and Joliet Catholic, too. It has been a banner football year for the Catholic high school teams across the Southland.

CHICAGO — A banner year for Catholic high school football teams on the South Side and in the south suburbs continues as the area will see all four major Catholic high school teams on the South Side and two in the suburbs advance to the quarterfinal round of the Illinois High School Association championship series.

It was a perfect sweep for the Catholic schools on the South Side in last weekend's playoff games, with Brother Rice, Marist, St. Rita and Mount Carmel all winning their second round playoff games. South suburban Catholic schools Providence Catholic and Joliet Catholic Academy also pulled off big wins and find themselves just three wins away from state championships as well.
