Car Thieves As Young As 10, Cops Say
Car theft victims in Beverly and Mount Greenwood were either at gas stations or delivering food.
CHICAGO — Children as young as age 10 were involved in a string of stolen car reports in Beverly and Mount Greenwood earlier this month, according to a police description. Seven car thefts were reported in the 22nd District neighborhoods between June 19 and June 26.
Victims were either at a gas station or delivering food when the thieved jumped in their cars and fled the area, police said. In one case, the thieves pulled alongside a woman in traffic "with a ruse of something wrong with the victim's tire," causing her to pull over.
Three reports were made in the 9900 block of South Western Avenue, of where there is a Shell gas station. Another report was made in the 10300 block of Western, while two others occurred in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood.
