CHICAGO — Milwaukee stand-up comedian Chastity Washington will headline an outdoor comedy show -- weather permitting -- at Barraco’s-Beverly on May 20. The show is being hosted by the 19th Ward and All That Good Stuff, a South Side comedy showcase.

Washington has been performing at clubs and colleges across the country for nearly 20 years. She’s worked in radio and as a middle and high school teacher. She’s appeared on BET Comic View, Coming to the Stage and HBO Def Jam. Washington has also been featured at the TBS Just For Laughs festival from 2009 to 2012 and was the only female finalist of the 2011 Bay Area Comedy competition. She has recently been featured at Jokes and Notes in Chicago, Milwaukee’s Comedy Cafe’, the LaffHouse in Philadelphia and the Milwaukee date of the Shaq Comedy All-Stars tour, according to her showbiz bio.

She draws a lot of her humor from her work as an educator. Washington has also found comedy in people’s reactions to the COVID-19 pandemic, ranging from “as scared as Woody Allen and as crazy as Rob Gronkowski.”

“My past and current work as an educator gives me material every day because school is like a movie; something funny happens every five to 10 minutes,” Washington told Shepherd Express. “My opinion on young people hasn’t changed, because though the students change the similarities in behavior don’t. Between the ages of 12-17, all of that foolishness still comes out, and it’s always going to be funny because we all have done it and witnessed it.”

The rest of the evening’s lineup features comedians Pat Tomasulo, Matty Ryan, Em Brown and Bridget McGuire, along with All That Good Stuff producers Mary Kate Beck and Maggie Hughes DePalo.
