Grant's Wonderburger Open Again In Mt. Greenwood

The legend returns. Look inside the new place at 111th and Christiana.

CHICAGO - Grant's Wonderburger, a Chicago institution, is open again. The longtime Mount Greenwood neighborhood staple re-opened at a new location on Wednesday. While the restaurant had to close temporarily due to technical issues in the early afternoon - shortly after its long-awaited 11 a.m. opening - the delay only lasted a short time and patrons were soon again able to taste the legend that is Grant's Wonderburger.

Patch stopped by to take a few photos of the new place on its opening day. Scroll through the images at the top of this article for more scenes from the day.

We also talked with Megan, a server helping out on opening day. She worked at the former Wonderburger at 110th and Kedzie for eight years before it closed a few years ago.

"The menu is a bit different and simplified," she said. "But it's still the same original Wonderburger. The same sauce, same recipe. That's what people are excited about."

At the new place there are two floors of seating, a bar and the original sign from the first Wonderburger restaurant has made its return as well.

Just before noon, the parking lot for the new Wonderburger (which is connected to the La Fiesta Restaurant at 111th and Christiana) was full. The place was temporarily closed due to technical issues but could open again today and is expected to be back in business by Thursday for sure.
