How To Discard Dangerous Waste This Saturday In Beverly

Hazardous items like electronics, household chemicals and styrofoam will be accepted at the Saturday disposal event.

CHICAGO, IL — Discarding hazardous materials usually involves researching disposal sites, tracking down their hours and fees and driving to several locations throughout town.

Chicago-area residents this Saturday, however, will have the opportunity to offload dangerous chemicals — and more — at one time.

This Saturday, the Morgan Park United Methodist Church parking lot will play host to a hazardous waste and electronics collection from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Located at the intersection of 110th Place and Longwood Drive, the collection is sponsored by the Green Sanctuary Group of the Beverly Hills Unitarian Church.

Electronics items including computers, monitors, printers, small TVs, cell phones and tablets will be collected during the event.

Participants can also dispose of mercury-fluorescent bulbs, anti-freeze, used motor oil, gasoline, oil-based paint, paint thinner and spray paint during the disposal event.

Several other items will also be accepted, including rechargeable batteries, lawn chemicals, solvents, drain cleaners, pool chemicals mercury thermometers and herbicides, pesticides and insecticides.

While eyeglasses and clean styrofoam will be accepted for disposal, several items such as alkaline batteries, appliances, biohazardous products and Freon will be rejected.

While the collection event will be provided for free to the public, participants are asked to make a donation to help offset the cost of disposal, trucks and workers.
