1 Dead In Kitchen Fire In Mt. Greenwood

A 24-year-old woman was found unconscious in an apartment building in Mount Greenwood early Wednesday morning, Chicago police said.

CHICAGO — A fire that started in the kitchen of an apartment building early Wednesday morning in Mount Greenwood has left one person dead.

Around 5 a.m. firefighters responded to a fire in the 4000 block of West 115th Street, where a 24-year-old woman was found unconscious on the bedroom floor. A fire had apparently started in the kitchen where the woman had been cooking causing heavy smoke throughout the apartment, Chicago police said.

The woman was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.
