Man Gunned Down At Pancake House '100 Percent Targeted': Police
Chicago police plan to release images from Sunday's shooting outside a Morgan Park pancake house that left a man dead and four wounded.

CHICAGO (MORGAN PARK) — A 31-year-old Chicago man gunned down Sunday in a brazen mid-afternoon shooting in an outdoor dining tent outside a Morgan Park pancake house was “100 percent targeted,” CPD Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said. Four others were also wounded in the shooting and are recovering in area hospitals.
Devon Welsh was dining with his girlfriend and their 3-month-old daughter around 1:45 p.m., when a white SUV pulled into the parking lot of Lumes Pancake House at 116th and Western, popular among the after-church crowd. Police said three gunmen got out of the SUV and walked to where two men and three women were sitting at a table. The gunmen opened fire killing Welsh and wounding four others, according to police. At least 40 rounds were fired.

As the three gunmen fled in the Audi, someone stepped out of the tent and fired a gun at the fleeing vehicle, the Chicago Tribune reported. The man ditched the gun and left before police arrived.
Deenihan declined to speculate if the shooting was gang related. He said they were looking into a couple of motives which police are not ready to disclose.

“They stood over and shot him, and so he was targeted,” Deenihan said. “100 percent.”
Police plan to release video or still images of the suspects and/or their vehicle culled from nearby business security cameras. Deenihan said police have video of the shooting.

During a news conference Monday morning to announce the arrest of a 19-year-old suspect accused of shooting two police officers over the weekend, CPD Supt. David Brown commended members of the public for coming forward to provide information about the shooting. He encouraged others to do so “to bring violent offenders to justice.”
Welsh was one of ten people who died in weekend violence, with an additional 52 people wounded in 42 reported shootings.
