Mount Carmel Football Nearly Set To Begin Post-Gately Stadium Era
Renovations at Carey Field are nearing completion, as the Caravan will begin a new era at 64th and Dante on Aug. 30.

CHICAGO - The stories Mount Carmel High School football program will perhaps forever be remembered for two mainstays. Former head coach Frank Lenti and Gately Stadium, the longtime South Side high school football venue the Caravan called home for decades.
Now, in less than a two-year span, both mainstays are no longer connected to the program. But those with the school say exciting times still remain for the program, which soon begins its second year under current head coach Jordan Lynch and will soon unveil a new and improved playing surface right on campus at 64th and Dante.
“Gately Stadium was a wonderful part of our football history, but our own stadium on campus will enhance the Mount Carmel experience for our players, fans, and alumni,” Mount Carmel Athletic Director Dan LaCount said.

All home football games will be played at the campus' Carey Field this year for the first time in school history, the school said in a news release. The first game at the renovated Barda-Dowling Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 against Calumet High School of Gary, Indiana.
The stadium is named in honor of the only two players who have had their numbers retired in Mount Carmel football history. Both Jim Barda (#38, 1963) and Kevin Dowling (#57, 1996) passed away as members of the Caravan football team.
