Mt. Carmel, St. Rita Seek State Football Titles Saturday

Two South Side Catholic schools have advanced to IHSA football championship weekend.

CHICAGO — An incredible year for high school football teams at Catholic schools on the South Side moves to the final weekend of the year. Both the St. Rita Mustangs and Mount Carmel Caravan will seek IHSA state football titles in state championship games in DeKalb on Saturday.

The Mustangs advanced to the championship with a 42-21 win over Boylan Catholic at home while the Caravan went on the road to defeat Willowbrook, 27-6.

St. Rita seeks the 5A state title while Mt. Carmel is seeking to be the 7A champion. St. Rita will play against Rochester at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30 while Mt. Carmel will face Nazareth Academy later that day at 4 p.m. See live scoring updates here

Both games involving South Side teams will be played at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb.

South Side Catholic schools were even more well-represented in the state semifinals as Marist and Brother Rice both made it that far in the Class 8A field as well. The RedHawks were undone by Lincoln-Way East while the Crusaders' season ended with a loss to Gurnee Warren.
