CHICAGO - A corner lemonade stand in Mount Greenwood this summer not only helped passerbys escape the heat for a moment, but also raised a significant donation to the Sertoma Centre in Alsip, which helps people with disabilities live independent lives. Six neighborhood kids, members of the Maher and Siefert families are being praised for teaching others about the joy of giving back.

The children showed up at the center this week with a heavy bag of dollars and coins raised from the lemonade stand, a total that nearly reached $150. Involved in running the stand were Mollie Maher, Addison Siefert, Conor Maher, Kevin Maher, Lillie Siefert and Ben Siefert.

They learned about Sertoma from longtime employee Megan McShane, assistant director of consumer services at Sertoma and the aunt of Mollie, Kevin and Conor Maher.
