Original Rainbow Cone Reopening After Winter Break
The Beverly neighborhood institution at 92nd and Western returns after a month-long winter break.

CHICAGO (BEVERLY) — The Original Rainbow Cone, the Beverly neighborhood institution entering its 94th year at 92nd and Western, will reopen for the season on Wednesday. A phone call to the store's main number confirmed they will be back in business at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 12.
Rainbow Cone had been closed for winter since Jan. 3, according to an automated voice message. Their winter hours will resume on the 12th. Beginning then, they will be open from 11:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
They will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays until summer hours go into effect.

The business is holding a "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" deal on rainbow cones for the first week after its return.
Visitors who haven't been to the Rainbow Cone in some time may notice a few differences with the outside of the building, but not with the traditional Rainbow Cone flavors.

The words "The Original Rainbow Cone" are now painted in white on the side of the building that faces Western Avenue. The building also went under a paint job last year and appears to have more of an orange (sherbet, more appropriately) color. Before the paint job the outside looked pink due to years of exposure to the sun, Rainbow Cone Owner Lynn Sapp told Patch last year.
If you haven't been there in more than 15 years, the surrounding area is quite different. Across the street, there's no longer a golf course, trees and a bunch of open space. The Evergreen Park side of Western now features the likes of several big-box stores in a centralized retail area.
