Rock Island Will Shut Down In Beverly For 2 Days
The Beverly Branch of Metra's Rock Island Line will shut down on May 19 and 20 as crews will replace ties on the line.

CHICAGO, IL – Service on the Beverly Branch of the Metra Rock Island Line will be shut down for the weekend of May 19-20 as work crews continue a two-month long project to replace about 10,000 ties on the line. This means trains will not make stops in either direction at Brainerd, 91st Street - Beverly Hills, 95th Street - Beverly Hills, 99th Street - Beverly Hills, 103rd Street - Beverly Hills, 107th Street - Beverly Hills, 111th Street - Morgan Park, 115th Street - Morgan Park, 119th Street, 123rd Street and Prairie Street stations throughout both days.
To accommodate demand, Metra will make additional stops at 103rd Street/Washington Heights, 95th Street/Longwood and Gresham stations, the nearest Rock Island stops to the neighborhood that aren't on the Beverly Branch. One additional mainline train will also be added on Saturday and Sunday to limit gaps, according to a news release from Metra.
“We understand that this will inconvenience some of our customers, but track projects like this are absolutely essential to maintaining safe and high-quality rail service,” said Metra CEO/Executive Director Jim Derwinski. “In this case, taking the branch line out of service for those two days will allow us to replace significantly more ties in a shorter period of time, thereby limiting the overall impact to our customers and making much more efficient use of our work force.”
