While commencement ceremonies can only be viewed virtually, two guests per graduate are invited to attend commencement walks.

CHICAGO, IL — Saint Xavier University next month will host virtual commencement ceremonies for graduates in both its 2020 and 2021 graduating classes

In a news release, the university said its virtual ceremonies will be held on May 8. The class of 2020 will be honored in a ceremony at 10 a.m., and the class of 2021 will be celebrated at 2 p.m.

The university said it will send out a text message providing students a link to view the commencement ceremonies as May 8 nears.

While the graduation ceremonies themselves will only be available in a virtual format, the university will offer a chance for students and two guests to celebrate in person.

During what Saint Xavier is calling "commencement walks," masked groups of revelers will have the opportunity to have their pictures taken while carrying their diploma covers and wearing regalia in the Butler Reception Room

While graduates are limited to bringing only two groups to the commencement walks, the event will be streamed live for friends and family members watching from home.

"Commencement serves as a means for reflection, recognition and celebration of our students’ hard work and perseverance, as well as a rite of passage to what we are confident will be a bright future," Saint Xavier said in a news release.
