CHICAGO — Pooches will prance in the 12th annual Smith Village Pet Parade, set for 10 a.m. Friday, July 23, with fun continuing until noon. Beverly, Morgan Park and Mt. Greenwood neighbors can bring their pets to join Smith Village residents’ four-legged friends.

Smith Village Senior Living Community will host this popular event on its village green located along 112th Place just east of South Western Avenue in Beverly. The parade welcomes dogs as well as cats, birds and other pets belonging to Smith Village residents’ families, staff, volunteers and neighbors. Pets are invited, but not required, to perform tricks or wear costumes. Pets, dogs particularly, must be well-behaved, kept on leashes or, as appropriate, in crates for the duration of the frivolity.

A panel of three Smith Village residents will award the top three pets with
baskets containing treats and toys. Other participating pets will receive doggy bags.
Water bowls and dog biscuits also are provided. Refreshments for two-legged guests
will include cool beverages and cookies shaped like dog bones and house cats.
