Southsiders for Peace Host Congressional Candidates Forum

Four Democratic challengers running in IL-01 and IL-03 Districts will appear at a candidates' forum at Beverly Unitarian Church.

CHICAGO, IL (Beverly) — Southsiders For Peace is hosting a forum for candidates running in the upcoming Democratic primary in the 1st and 3rd Congressional Districts this Saturday, Jan. 25, at Beverly Unitarian Church, 10244 S Longwood Ave. (103rd and Longwood), Chicago. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the forum will begin at 7 p.m. Residents are welcome to come early or linger afterward for appetizers, beer and wine.

Invitations went out to all the Democratic candidates. Marie Newman, who is challenging Congressman Dan Lipinski in Illinois’s 3rd District, has confirmed her attendance. Robert Emmons Jr., Sarah Gad and Ameena Matthews who are challenging Congressman Bobby Rush in the 1st Congressional District, are also planning to participate.

Challenger Rush Darwish, who is running in IL-03, had a prior commitment and cannot be at the forum. Lipinski and Rush have yet to respond to the group’s invitation.

Each candidate will have the opportunity to present their respective platforms in opening statements. As to the order of candidates speaking, names will be drawn prior to the forum. After opening statements, candidates will field questions from the audience. The forum will be moderated by Southsider for Peace member William Beaulieu.
