Summer Solstice 'Uprising' Planned At 99th And Walden Parkway
A "Summer Solstice Uprising" will highlight the longest day of the year in the Beverly neighborhood.

CHICAGO — Magic tricks, psychic readings and live screen printing are some of the activities planned a street festival set to take place on the longest day of the year in the Beverly neighborhood. The Beverly Area Arts Alliance is planning an "Uprising Summer Solstice Market" in the open area near 99th Street and Walden Parkway beginning at 5:10 p.m. on Friday, June 21.
According to Monica Wilczak of the Arts Alliance, a number of activities are planned for the market. Here's a preview of what's planned for the night:
- David Gruba will showcase mystical magic tricks
- Kathy Konopasek of Amulet Tarot will do private readings for $7
- Spudnik Press Cooperative will do live screen printing
- Kevin Demski will feature a custom printing on wood hands-on activity
- Limited edition Solstice pints and totes will be available
- DJ Ruta Spencer spinning tunes
- An evening bonfire
The event will feature a total of 20 vendors - including a number of Chicago Fair Trade vendors - many of which are new to an Uprising event. Items range from jewelry and clothing to pottery and fine art, according to Wilczak.

Additional activities include flower crown making for folks of all ages and henna tattoos by neighborhood artist Cathy Sorich. Edna White Garden representatives will be there as will the Beverly Arts Center.
Food offerings will be provided by Calabria Imports and Ohana Ice & Treats.

A feature of the evening is the opening of the Prairie Gothic exhibition.
A $5 suggested entry donation is requested, $10 for families. The entry donation includes a raffle ticket.
