SXU Names Scott Campbell Interim Men's Basketball Head Coach

CHICAGO —Saint Xavier University has tabbed assistant men's basketball coach Scott Campbell to be the interim head coach of the team following the retirement of Tom O'Malley. O'Malley retired following the 2019-2020 season, his 23rd as the head coach of the Cougars.

"I can't express how honored I am to be able to serve Saint Xavier in the capacity of Interim Head Coach," Campbell said. "I am grateful and privileged to have the trust of our A.D. Allison Kern and President Dr. Laurie M. Joyner to lead our Men's Basketball program. I don't take that responsibility lightly; I am confident that I am prepared, equipped and ready to man the position and serve our student-athletes."

Campbell, who played for O'Malley at SXU from 2007-2009, was an assistant for the team from 2010-2013 before returning last year for his fourth season as an SXU assistant. Between his stints at SXU, Campbell was an assistant coach at Elmhurst College for three years.

The new interim coach said he has a program in place to be prepared for the 2020-2021 season despite all spring learning being done remotely and students not on the Mount Greenwood neighborhood campus.

"The state of Cougar Basketball is exciting and we just can't wait to put the finished product on the court this fall," he said.
