SXU Volleyball Duo Named CCAC's Defensive Players of the Week
SXU volleyball duo named CCAC's defensive players of the week.
Senior hitter Alex Lambros (Oak Forest HS / Oak Forest, Ill.), along with freshman setter Cassidy Wyman(Lincoln-Way Central HS / Mokena, Ill.) were recognized by the CCAC on Tuesday, as the duo were named the conference's defensive player of the week, and setter of the week, respectively.
Lambros earns her first career athlete of the week award, after helping lead Saint Xavier (19-9) to a pair of conference victories over Robert Morris and Roosevelt, as the Cougars finished 2-1 on the week. Lambros averaged 1.2 blocks per set over three matches, with a high of six total blocks against the Lakers on Thursday night. The senior led Saint Xavier with an average of 3.8 points per set throughout the week.
Wyman was tagged as CCAC Setter of the Week for the third time this season, after averaging 8.8 assists per set and recording a pair of double-doubles on the week. The freshman tallied 25 assists and 11 digs in the win over Robert Morris on Tuesday, then collected 42 assists and 13 digs in the five-set non-conference loss to Indiana Wesleyan on Friday night.
Lambros, Wyman, and the rest of the Cougars will close out the non-conference portion of their schedule on Tuesday night, when they host NCAA Division II opponent Purdue-Northwest. First serve from the Shannon Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
