The Underground Railroad in the Chicago Southland.
Local group offers lectures, tours, hikes.

During the 1800's prior to the Civil War and Emancipation, countless hundreds- or perhaps thousands- of "Freedom Seekers, " (escaped slaves) came through our region hoping to find their freedom from the slavery still practiced down south at the time.
This little-known piece of American and African-American history is explored and brought to life for you by members of the Little Calumet River Underground Railroad Project. Led by author and northern Illinois' foremost authority, Professor Larry McClellan, the group will stage an animated power point presentation and discussion on Sunday, February 9 at 3 pm at the Pullman National Monument Visitor Center as part of Black History Month events.
This event is free and open to the public. Location is at 11141 S. Cottage Grove Avenue, Chicago. Plenty of free parking. Refreshments will be served.
