UpFall Art Gallery in Beverly announces July 27th reception

SXU Art Station, will be holding a reception for our third show of the season

SXU Art Station, will be holding a reception for our third show of the season featuring the artwork of James Miller and Nathan Peck from 5pm to 9pm on Friday, July 27th.

After two fantastic exhibits displaying the work of former and current Saint Xavier University students, faculty and staff, the curators of the gallery, Peck and Miller, are hanging their own work on the walls of Beverly’s newest art exhibition space. Located at 1767 95th Street, across from the Beverly/95th Street Metra stop, UpFall is a satellite location of Saint Xavier University’s Art & Design Program. UpFall has received the space rent-free through the generous sponsorship of Betsy and Quentin Green of Lincoln Park Homes.

In The Process of Change, James Miller explores the humanity of the Syrian refugee crisis in his piece The Littlest Refugee, and the lack of humanity in the Supreme Court's recent support of the immigration ban on people from primarily Muslim countries. In his “progressive and progressing” screen print #muslimban Liberty, Miller asserts that immigrants are “a part of us, not apart from us.” This piece was created using the feedback and advice of young Muslim voices in the Chicagoland area, some of which will be performing hip-hop, spoken word and more at the July 27th reception.

Nathan Peck’s Current State of the Art, initially began in 2011 as a piece called These Guys Work for Me, an idea involving grotesque images that were inspired by both football and slaughterhouses. This idea came after Nathan worked on a performance piece in an old slaughterhouse, and the same week participated in an alumni football game. His paintings depict wads of meat that have been ripped apart, then dressed up and presented for the viewer’s consideration. Last year, Nathan revised these works in order to create an illusion of space for these objects. While remixing his work, he is choosing to keep enough of the original work to allow the viewer to know that it was remixed. He wants the audience to know that the paintings are forever in a space between what they were and what they will someday be. This is just The Current State of the Art.

UpFall looks forward to meeting new faces, and greeting old friends at this, the mid-point of its summer season, and welcome any and all to join us, drink all our tea and lemonade, and relax and enjoy Beverly’s rich and vibrant art scene.
