Water Pressure Restored In 19th Ward After Service Disruption
Roseland Pumping Station back online after power outages leave Beverly and Morgan Park waterless for the second time this month.
CHICAGO — For the third time this month, Beverly and Morgan Park residents swamped the 19th Ward office with calls after experiencing a significant drop in water pressure that left some without water or a trickle. Earlier this month, 19th Ward residents had to boil water for 24 hours.
Between 9:15 a.m. and 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, the Chicago Department of Water Management’s Roseland Pumping Station experienced two power issues that affected the pumping pressure for drinking water. The areas primarily affected by the outage were the Beverly and Morgan Park neighborhoods.
“The station is fully back online and pressurized,” said Megan Vidis, spokesperson for the water management department. “A boil order is NOT being issued because of the temporary nature of the issue. Out of an abundance of caution and in consultation with the Illinois EPA, the City will be performing its standard low pressure water sampling survey throughout the neighborhood.”

According to Vidis, in the water industry precautionary low pressure water sampling surveys are performed regularly to ensure that the water quality has been maintained.
Once again, there will be an investigation to determine the exact cause of the outage.
