Chicago’s go-to honey expert and award-winning cookbook author, Chef Carrie Schloss will be hosting a Honey and Mead Tasting event on March 31, 2019 at The Wild Blossom Meadery and Winery, 9030 S. Hermitage Ave, Chicago IL from 11:30 – 1:30 pm. The unique food and mead tasting event will feature a specialty honey tasting, delicious food samplings from Chef Carrie’s award-winning cookbook The Asheville Bee Charmer: Sweet and Savory Recipes Inspired by 28 Honey Varietals and Blends, cookbook signing, a flight of Chicago’s finest meads and meadery tour.
“There are thousands of honey varietals worldwide. Each has a unique flavor profile from smell and taste, to viscosity, and level of sweetness,” says Chef Carrie. “It’s interesting to see how different a dish or drink can taste depending on what type of honey you use.” Chef Carrie will be presenting a variety of honey pairings at the event allowing attendees to explore the complex flavor profiles for themselves.
For more than two decades, Wild Blossom Meadery & Winery has been a fixture in Chicago, creating wine and mead using locally produced ingredients. “Mead is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey with yeast. Mead is not a beer, wine, or spirit in the normal sense; it is its own class of alcohol, and it is believed to be the oldest alcoholic beverage” explains Greg Fischer, Owner of Wild Blossom Meadery and beekeeping expert.
