Windows Shattered, Businesses Vandalized In 19th Ward: O'Shea
The alderman is urging residents to stop spreading rumors.

CHICAGO — Civil unrest occurred in the 19th Ward neighborhoods of Beverly, Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park over the weekend but as of Monday afternoon no one was reported to have been injured by any of the incidents, 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea said in an email to ward residents. There were a number of incidents of vandalism, however, and several businesses in the neighborhood were targeted.
O'Shea said "over a dozen" businesses were vandalized and thieves stole items from at least for after their windows were shattered.
The Andriana Furs store at 95th and Leavitt was one of the businesses targeted, with a broken window on the east side of the building. By early Sunday evening, police were guarding the store with a vehicle blocking the broken window.

A number of rumors of other incidents occurring in the neighborhood were shared via social media. False rumors of happenings in other towns in Chicagoland and all across the nation were also rampant on Sunday.
O'Shea said in the email that "distributing false information can needlessly cause panic and distract law enforcement from addressing real problems" and urged residents not to share information that has not been verified.
