CHICAGO — The Y-Me Softball Tournament, which honors breast cancer survivors in the neighborhood and remembers those who have passed, will be held this Saturday in Mount Greenwood. Games in the all-female 16-inch softball tournament will be played throughout the day at the St. Christina Fields and Mt. Greenwood Park at 111th and Central Park on Saturday, Aug. 24.

The Y-Me tournament, which has grown from 8 to as many as 64 teams, draws more than 1,000 women who participate in the tournament, former 19th Ward Ald. Ginger Rugai told Patch last year. Rugai is the founder of the tournament that enters its 25th year this weekend.

"People are there to compete and have fun, but also to remember someone who has passed away to breast cancer," Rugai said. "It's very emotional, but a great day with about 1,200 women and the incredible generosity of the community."
