6-Month-Old With Rare Disorder Gets a Beer Named After Him

Bucktown's Pipeworks Brewing is producing the special beer to help raise money for the Dempster Family Foundation, led by former Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster.

You might need to be 21 to drink, but 6-month-old Bucktown child Cohen Garcia already has a beer named after him.

According to DNA Info, Cohen has a rare genetic disorder called 22q deletion syndrome, which is a small missing piece of the 22nd chromosome that causes health and developmental problems in children. Cohen has a heart defect, is on oxygen and has a feeding tube, according to DNA Info.

Cohen's father runs the nonprofit State of Kind, and he's collaborating with Pipeworks Brewing Co. to brew "Cohen's State of Kind," a special beer to be released this month. It will raise money for the Dempster Family Foundation, which is led by former Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster, whose daughter Riley has the syndrome.

There will also be a July 12 fundraiser at Howell's & Hood in Chicago that will feature the beer. For more information, read the full DNA Info article
