Bike Overflow: Request New Racks in Wicker Park, Bucktown

Chicago may be constantly installing new bike racks, but is there a spot in town you think they may have missed? Here's how to give the city a shout-out.

Bucktown and Wicker Park may be home to literally hundreds of bike racks, but actual residents are the true pulse of neighborhood needs.

That’s why the Chicago Department of Transportation’s website let’s neighbors request new locations for bike racks. Whether it’s an important spot being overlooked or a popular location with not enough parking spaces, CDOT wants to know.

Neighborhood residents can visit the Chicago Bike Parking website to make requests. All the website asks for is an address, with additional information about the location—like a specific description—being completely optional.

After a request is submitted, residents can track the status of their bike rack. CDOT says since 1993, the city has installed nearly 14,000 bike racks.
