Carson's In Riverside Plaza To Close, Clearance Sales Begin
Sales begin Thursday at Carson's in the West Loop and are scheduled to run for 10 to 12 weeks, the company said.

CHICAGO, IL — Months after announcing that at least 40 locations will close this year nationwide, Bon-Ton Stores on Wednesday released a list of Carson's and Bergner's locations set to close over the next few months, including the Carson's in Riverside Plaza. Store closing sales are set to begin Thursday, and will continue for 10 to 12 weeks, the company said.
Seven Illinois locations are on the list of closings:
- Carson's Clearance Center, Aurora
- Carson's at Riverside Plaza in Chicago
- Carson's at Village Mall in Danville
- Carson's at Northland Plaza in DeKalb
- Carson's at Village Plaza in Morton Grove
- Bergner's at Sheridan Village in Peoria
- Carson's at the Streets of Woodfield in Schaumburg
"As part of the comprehensive turnaround plan we announced in November, we are taking the next steps in our effort to move forward with a more productive store footprint," Bill Tracy, president and chief executive officer for Bon-Ton Stores, said in a statement. "Including other recently announced store closures, we expect to close a total of 47 stores in early 2018. We remain focused on executing our key initiatives to drive improved performance in an effort to strengthen our capital structure to support the business going forward."

The stores are the latest in a long list of retailers that are shuttering amid competition from online retailers like Amazon.
Also on Wednesday, Sears announced it will lay off 220 employees at its Hoffman Estates headquarters.
