City Health Inspectors Order NW Side Walmart Closed

Health inspectors found rodent droppings in the Walmart, according to the city's data portal.

CHICAGO, IL — A Walmart on the city's Northwest Side was ordered closed this week after city health inspectors said rodent droppings were found in the store. The inspectors advised the store to contact a pest control service, according to the city's data portal. Walmart has not announced when the Super Center at 4650 W North Ave. will reopen.

Around 80 rodent droppings were found in both the store's back dry goods area and dry food storage area, according to city's data portal. Droppings were also found in the store's upstairs area and snack food and cereal isles, health inspectors noted in the portal.

Walmart issued the following statement:

“Our store on North Avenue is temporarily closed as we address a situation following a City of Chicago inspection. We have stringent quality standards in place and are working closely with the Department of Public Health. We take this matter seriously and will reopen as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers.”
