Double Door Ordered to Leave Wicker Park Location

The neighborhood favorite loses its battle with the landlord.

Chicago, IL - Double Door, the rock club that’s been a longtime fixture on Milwaukee Avenue, will be forced to leave after a judge ruled in favor of the landlord in an ongoing dispute over the club’s lease.

Judge Orville Hambright Jr. said he couldn’t prove Double Door owner Sean Mulroney followed the lease extension properly in court on Wednesday, ending a legal battle that has been firing for months, according to DNAinfo Chicago and other reports.

Landlord Brian Strauss claims that Mulroney did not provide the proper 180-day notice as to whether or not he was extending the club’s lease at the building at 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave. He told the judge Mulroney did not provide his intent to keep the club there until after the lawsuit was filed and well after the original lease expired in October 2015.

It’s still unclear as to how much longer Double Door will be in the neighborhood. That will be decided by a judge in August.

Concerts are planned at the venue through February 2017.
