HT Fall Sports: GVB: HT def. Hope Ac. advances to CPC semis

Lady Tigers top the Eagles by scores of 25-16, 22-25, 25-23

Holy Trinity (now 11-7 overall), the #4 seed, playing in the opening round of the Chicago Prep conference volleyball playoffs, defeated #5 Hope Academy Tuesday evening in a contest held at Cristo Rey high. Scores were 25-16, 22-25, 25-23.

With the victory, Holy Trinity advances to the conference semifinals to be played Wednesday evening at Christ the King high, in a 6:30 p.m. at that site.

The Lady Tigers opened with a commanding 25-16 win in game one courtesy of six kills by Alyssa Hernandez and three kills by teammate Kyra Hayes in this initial set.

The Tigers looked to be on their their way to a two-game sweep of the Eagles, as they moved out to a 9-2 advantage early, but give Hope credit for hanging in, as the Eagles clawed back from the early deficit to gain a late 21-20 lead and closed out game two with a 25-22 victory.

Game three went back-and-forth with Hope leading 17-12 towards the end before HT inched to a 21-20 lead on a kill by Hernandez.

The score then was tied at 21-all and 23-all before the Tigers prevailed.

Leading the Tigers in the contest were: Jennifer Rios (14 service points, four aces; 17 set assists); Alyssa Hernandez (14 kills 3 blocks); Kyra Hayes (5 kills); Jocelyn Salgado (4 kills, five service points) and Moshay Turner nine service points and 7 digs).

SERVING: HT 73 attempts with 70 made for a 96% average and eight aces; HOPE AC: 64 attempts with 51 made and 10 aces.

NOTES: The Tigers will play a 6:30 p.m. in the CPC semifinal match @ Christ the King tomorrow Wednesday, October 23rd.
