Retail Space, 'Luxury Units', Under Way in Bucktown

Construction workers are busy building a four-story structure on Damen Avenue. Check out our photo gallery for a look at the progress and get a few details we've gathered about the project.

A four-story mixed-use building is under way on what was once a vacant Damen Avenue lot.

Details about construction at 2138 N. Damen Ave. are relatively scant, as real estate company Sergio & Banks features renderings of the finished product with "to-be-determined" prices and few interior details. The building is near Damen's intersection with West Shakespeare Avenue.

Its designers, Axios Architects & Consultants, Ltd., indicate that the space will include three "luxury units" with retailers on the ground floor. A company brochure lists an average cost of $1.5 million per unit and a completion date that doesn't get more specific than "2013".

A first-floor interior garage space is also part of the plan, according to the site's City of Chicago business permit, which was issued Feb. 25.

Workers broke ground on the project in early March.
